Did you know that Audrey Hepburn supposedly had the same size face as a six-year-old child? As one of the most iconic frame wearers of her generation, clearly having a small face wasn't a problem for her, and if you too have a narrow or small face, then fret not - there are plenty of options, it 's just a case of understanding what you are looking for.
There are two important rules for finding glasses or sunglasses for small faces. Firstly, know your size. Frames all (should) have a unique set of numbers included on the inside of their temple, this dictates the size of your frame. Once you know what size frame you are wearing, you can start to judge which frames will fit you and set parameters of size around this number. Step two is fit! Buying online doesn't particularly cater for this, but it 's very important that you are made aware that your frames can be adjusted. One of the most irritating things in the world is having frames slip off your nose and constantly having to push them back up. This unfortunate aggravation tends to be common place for people with small faces, as the temples tend to be too long for their face. There is a very simple way of combatting this; adjustment. Find a good independent optician and ask for their help, by carefully heating up the temple, it can be adjusted to bend perfectly at your ear, and as if by magic, no more slipping and sliding.
Another little tip for small faces is to use optical frames as sunglasses. Optical frames tend to be smaller than sunglasses, and you can simply ask your optician to put sun lenses in them. King Charles III famously wore the ‘Carl’ on many of his Royal visits around the globe with the late Princess Diana. Carl was originally designed in 1967, proof that this piece had been part of his sunglass collection for many years.
The Coronation of His Majesty The King will take place on Saturday 6th May 2023 and will be a historic day in the British calendar.
The Coronation Ceremony will be conducted by the Archbishop of Canterbury take place at Westminster Abbey, London, and will see His Majesty King Charles III crowned alongside The Queen Consort.
The Coronation will reflect the monarch’s role today and look towards the future, while being rooted in longstanding traditions and pageantry. We wish the new King our best wishes and hope that we can continue to support the Royal Family with their eyewear choices through future Reigns.

Koko is one of Oliver Goldsmith’s most popular and archetypal sunglass designs. Originally designed in 1966 (the temple is embossed with this date), its large circular shaping and paddle temples are representative of the era and the infamous ‘swinging sixties’. A-Morir has taken the spirit of this frame and exaggerated it in all its glory. Hand applied Preciosa crystal chain trim and crystal fringe adorn these iconic sunglasses making them the most unique and show-stopping frames in the world.
Fuz is another of Oliver Goldsmith’s most iconic designs. Originally designed in 1966, the oversized rectangular shaping of the Fuz is characteristic of the era. The aviator is arguably the most famous eyewear shape ever manufactured. It 's classic teardrop shape is instantly familiar and more significantly, there are few who haven 't owned a pair, and for good reason, it 's quite simply one of the most wearable and loved sunglasses on the planet.
Originally developed by Bausch and Lomb in the early 20th century as an alternative to the fur-lined goggles worn by pilots, aviator sunglasses were the antidote to these under-performing safety glasses. They were developed specifically for aviation (hence their moniker) and particularly for flying at excessive altitudes. Lighter and thinner than goggles, the teardrop shape runs along the cheek line and the dark (often) mirrored lenses protected the eyes from the blinding glare of the sun, helping to prevent headaches and to combat decreased visibility.
Despite being designed for utility, these functional frames were predictably seized by fashion and by the 1940 's the aviator was a style coveted by all types of sports stars from fisherman to hunters – all looking for stylish eye protection whilst par-taking in sports. It wasn 't until WWII was over that the connection between the military and the aviator was properly established. This was mainly down to the memorable newspaper imagery of an American war veteran named Douglas MacArthur who wore a pair. By the 1950 's, the aviator was undoubtably a staple among the cultural style of both men and women.
Bausch and Lomb then went on to market the aviator as 'Ray Ban ', a word that went on to define the product shape for aviator and to an extent, still does. It 's taken on the identity of its original name, just as Hoover, Velcro and Google have. Fashion and celebrity powered this shape into intense popularity, the likes of Top Gun, Elvis Presley, Johnny Depp in 'Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas '‚the list goes on. Of course, there are many variations of the aviator today, but the classic teardrop shape continues to be the most commercially successful style and is available in both sunglasses and spectacles.
Oliver Goldsmith first introduced the aviator to their collection around 1970. He then went on to manufacture a huge range of frames with this design backbone, including classics such as the Berwick and Carl, as seen on Princess Diana and Prince Charles in the 80 's, the RIO, GLYN and GOPAS. Today, we have a fantastic selection of aviators in both our sun and optical lines, from the more traditional metal versions such as the COLT and the WISEGUY (which is a quintessential box aviator), to the architectural vibes of the Piero and 1940's. The contemporary shaping of the 2010 from the DECADES collection is particularly special. It 's floating lenses and bold metal brow-bar updates this style staple into the 21st century.

]]>253 million people around the world are visually impaired. Most frustratingly, 75% of visual impairment is avoidable through early treatment and diagnosis. Thursday 10th October is World Sight Day, an annual day of awareness that brings global attention to blindness and vision impairment. It also brings attention to the life-changing work that the charity Orbis UK does to remove the barriers people face when trying to access quality eye care.
Oliver Goldsmith have been working closely with Orbis UK and have donated over 700 frames to date (a gift total of over £11,000). The donations were split between vital projects in Cameroon and Zambia. These programmes have both received long term support from Orbis UK and our donated frames were sold within the region to increase revenue for the centres, the hospital 's eye units and to help ensure sustainability of the programme.
The work Orbis UK do to strengthen both adult and child eye health services to building hospitals is simply invaluable and as an eyewear brand we want to support them in any way we can.

]]>When you do what we do, there's nothing more exciting than new designs, so we're delighted to introduce you to Winter Sun, the brand-new sunglasses and optical frame collection by Oliver Goldsmith.
Although new, the roots of this unique collection lie in a concept that was originally designed in 1969. The sunglasses feature a very lightly tinted lens. Originally known as 'cosmetic lenses' during the sixties, Oliver Goldsmith designed this tint specifically for protection against the sun's glare on a winter's day or to remove the brightness of interior lights.
Today, we've harnessed the same theory, but our lenses have been updated with the highest quality UVA and UVB sun protection. They can also be worn to ease the strain on eyes from digital devices and screen, as well as low light situations, handy!
Oliver Goldsmith have always been pioneers in their industry and were one of the first brands ever to use tinted lenses in their spectacles. Back in the 1940's, it was simply tinted glass and thanks to the improvements in technology and manufacturing we can now provide the highest optical protection whilst retaining a light, subtle tint. Oliver Goldsmith have always aimed to push the boundaries of design but also consumer expectation, and we hope to continue that legacy today.
There is a statement on the vintage marketing document for the original Winter Sun collection stating:

With more than 20 major festivals taking place across the capital this summer, London really is a melting-pot of music, merriment and no doubt, misdemeanour. There really is no-shortage of opportunity, from Dance to Disco, Reggae to Rap, whatever your taste there is a festival with your name on it.
But which events should you go to and more importantly, what sunglasses should you wear? Perhaps you fancy a disco all-dayer?
