2021 may have started off on the wrong foot, but hope is on the horizon and soon it will be time to hit refresh on our fashion choices and eyewear.  It’s time to ditch the old and embrace the new trends of 2021 with an updated image.  As one of the most personal accessories in our artillery, picking the right pair of glasses or sunglasses should be a measured and considered purchase, trends can be a brilliant source of inspiration, but nailing your ‘look’ can take time.

Fortunately for you, the most prevalent eyewear trend of 2021 is the re-mastered retro classic, something we at Oliver Goldsmith have in abundance.  Timeless silhouettes will always have a place in fashion, but by bringing a contemporary wash of colour, a coloured lens or manipulating a classic shape, your average aviator or cat-eye can be instantly updated.

Pantone’s  annual colour report also serves as an integral source of inspiration.  For this Spring/Summer balmy, floral pinks (such as party pink, piglet and fairy wing) and olive green (tomatillo and pepper stem) lead the way for 2021 and since historically coloured acetate wasn’t readily available, these modern colours instantly bring a modernised look to some of our most traditional shapes.

Cat-Eye’s

Take the cat-eye, a frame such as the 'Sophia' is one of our most beloved and traditional styles, yet the ‘pink tortoiseshell’ brings a new freshness to the frame.  The 2000s-001 is far from your average cat-eye, it’s a reinvention of a classic with ultra-modern ‘floating’ lenses and technical detailing.  For spectacles, check out the 'Hathaway' or 'Winston - Winter Sun'.

Aviators

The aviator finds new life in styles such as The Rio and The '2010'.  The Rio was originally designed in 1980 but the geometric brow line gives it a quirky edge and the ’Sherry Tortoiseshell’ or ‘Autumn Green’ tie in beautifully with this years colour trend.  The 2010 is quite literally THE definition of a remastered classic, entitled the ‘future retro aviator’ it’s a hybrid version of the worlds most loved sunglass style.  'Dean' with its coloured tinted lenses and the Gopas also serve up a dose of modern-day cool.

70’s Style

Last but not least, the ‘Jackie O’ or oversized sunglass. These bold beauties will always be popular, providing instant Hollywood glamour.  They too have had the 2021 treatment, top picks include the Y-Not in Leopard on Seafoam, Koko in Army Green, Cherry or Tinted Window or a new release, Circle Line in Tulip – all incredible beautiful, stylish and encapsulate this years trend.  For the guys, check out the 1968 classic The Mistinguett, or why not just blow everybody out the water with the ultimate sunglass, the one and only 'Wow'!
